Book Review

Where to begin Moon Knight has been gone from the marvel universe for some time (and when he has appeared he often was badly misused). Huston and Finch know that this character has depth that has not been dealt with for some time. Marc spector aka Moon Knight is a deeply complex character and that’s what the pair focus on in this reintroduction of the character, his multiply personality disorder, his relationship with those around him his lady Marlene and his best friend Frenchie and more importantly his relationship with his god Khonshu. It is all delicately done with a neat rehash of his origin in the story for new readers which does not feel like ‘oh we better get the newbie’s up to speed’ and the new status quo is introduced. Marc Spector is injured his legs in tatters after a final confrontation with his arch-nemesis the Bush man he has lost his friends and his purpose in life he is at the bottom. We get to witness marc Spector’s Third return from the dead @though this time his resurrection is more metaphorical than actual and this sets up nicely the themes of the book is Moon knight a hero? As the Books says ‘if by hero mean a borderline sadist whose entire sense of self worth is bound up in his ability to inflict pain, kill and generally &*%$ everything up? Then Yeah he was a hero.’ The growing love of violence in society and the worship of those e that commit it as khonshu says to him ‘Not that I didn’t appreciate crashing the helicopter into the building. Way to get the brand back in the public eye. Just Look how they love us.’ In the end I loved this book the art was great and the writing fantastic and well thought out, it contains lots of nods to moon knights past in the comics such as his confusing inclusion in the West Coast Avengers (making me think about picking up the two essential Moon Knight books for more background reading) without out it being just for old fans of the character. I think the book and its objectives can be summed up nicely by a rant from khonshu that can be seen easily as the writers thoughts about the way marvel and writers in the past have let the character slide into oblivion over the years ‘ You Slowed down. Let the years get to you. Let yourself get dropped from the B-list to the D-list. You let me fall off the radar…What was I supposed to do? Gracefully fade away?’ And moon knight has not faded away he is back one of the most dangerous and edgy of Marvels heroes with fabulous art work and writing not scared to take it to the edge without becoming clichéd moon knight is certainly making a push to return to marvels B-list.

Best scene
Is it when Moon Knight cuts of the face of bushmaster or flies the moon copter into the side of a building to get at the bad guys it’s a tough call but its got to be a moon copter into the side of a building
