Book Synopsis

Harry Dresden`s faced some pretty terrifying foes during his career. Giant scorpions. Oversexed vampires. Psychotic werewolves. It comes with the territory when you`re the only professional wizard in the Chicago area phone book. But in all Harry`s years of supernatural sleuthing, he`s never faced anything like this: the spirit world`s gone loco. All over Chicago, ghosts are causing trouble - and not just of the door-slamming, boo-shouting variety. These ghosts are tormented, violent, and deadly. Someone - or something - is purposely stirring them up to wreak unearthly havoc. But why? And why do so many of the victims have ties to Harry? If Harry doesn`t figure it out soon, he could wind up a ghost himself ...

Book Review

Jim Butcher really hits his stride in the third of the Dresden Case Files. There are two key elements here - the Knight of the Cross, Michael, Harry`s friend, with a very different view of the world (and a wife that really doesn`t like Harry much), and developments with Susan, the love interest in harry`s life. Further, we start to learn more about the White Council, the mysterious group responsible for wizards in the world.

Where this book really scores is we really start to get a feel for Harry as a person - how he cares for people, how he reacts when people are hurt and threatened, and we also see him making plenty of mistakes, making him more human than his magic.

I thoroughly recommend this series, and this book is one of the best.
